Another Greyhound

Hello blog fanz! Squash here doing a post for foster mom since she has been bad with updates.

I have been doing well. I have been here awhile now so I know everything a young stud like myself needs to know to get everything his way (shhhhh, don't tell foster mom!). We go for a walk mostly every day. Some days we go longer when it is warmer. I get super excited when I see another dog and sometimes I bark to tell 'em what is up.
Otherwise I am awesome on leash while I check out the pee mail. I love van rides, we go for rides often and I like to stand and stare out the window to recon for squirrels. I get super excited for food and treat time; I am happy to report I get two meals and three treat times a day, yummmmy! Is that a lot or a little? Hopefully, my forever mom/dad feeds me more because one can never eat too much :)

Anyrooo, this past week we had another greyhound in the house! He is called Arrow and is from NLGA as well(adopted 3 years ago). His mama goes off on vacations and leaves him here a few times a year. He is pretty cool and we got along great. He is more hyper than me and would try to get me to play chase, but I rarely did. Foster mom says I am very calm and mature for my age.

Well it is almost time for my nightly stuffed frozen kong, see you later folks, hope you all have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday Squash!

Happy 3rd Birthday to Squash and his litter mates!

Tortured with the birthday hat!
Squash Bday

I think Squash is really enjoying his birthday. He had a salmon cake with pumpkin icing topped with dried salmon 'candles'. It was warm today so we went on a longer walk than usual. I got him a JW Megalast Gummy Bear(makers of the Cuz) and he totally destroyed that in minutes, lol! I also got him a cow trachea chew, but that is for later :)

Squash enjoying his cake, yummy!

Cuz

It is so difficult to find a squeaky toy that lasts. Sqaush is really tough on toys, and just like my weims, stuffies are murdered instantly. Thankfully, the Cuz holds up pretty well. The squeaker usually lasts for about two weeks. I always cut off the feet before giving it to them because it could cause blockages if ingested. Some folks get annoyed by the loud squeaks, but I'm happy to give them something safe and fun to enjoy.

Squash playing with the cuz. You can see him licking his lips in the first couple seconds, I think he thought I was giving him a treat!

Squash celebrates his 3rd birthday next week on the 31st! I've got a cake and gifts planned for him :)

3 Months

squash bw

First of all, sorry for the lack of posts. Squash and I hope you all are having a greyt 2012.
Squash is doing wonderful. He has adjusted to our 7 A.M. wake up time :)
He is such a huge food hound and would often bark if I am too slow at preparing and delivering his kibble (he is like most dogs, they think humans are constantly starving them!).

Squash had to make a vet visit last week. We had a friend come over last week so I quickly put him in the backyard because the thought of escaped greyhounds is always in the back of my mind. He must of gotten himself overly excited and ended up hurting his back (I didn't witness how though). He was limping a little that night, but much more the next day so I decided to bring him in. They x-rayed his back and gave him a pain killer for a week. Thankfully, he is back to normal now. Squash is usually not a very active or hyper dog. He does the usual 5 min play session a couple times a day. He doesn't even really run in the yard, just a celebratory short jog after a poop.
Squash is a very sociable hound and gets a little excited when meeting new visitors. But after a few minutes he relaxes. He is always happy to get loved on and wants to be in the same room. He likes to come and check up on me if I leave the room for too long.
Squash has a greyt personality. He is happy and engaged, is easily correctable with a firm no but is not a spook. Squash is practically perfect... :o)

Here is a video of him opening his reindeer long dog toy. He needed help with the wrapping and was distracted by my weims.

Squash wishes you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sweet and Settled In

Squash is a huge sweetheart. He loves to be petted and scratched and will stand next/over me for as long as I am willing to love on him. If I stop before he is done, he'll circle around me and rub himself against me for more & more <3

Squash has fully settled in and does really well even though we don't have a set schedule because my work schedule fluctuates. I can tell he is really comfortable now because this week he has started to trot/run in the backyard a little bit. He even nitted me (really hard!) yesterday when I was excitedly playing with the dogs and laughing.
His 5AM bed rubs have now become 6AM rubs, yay! It is not entirely his fault because he can hear my weims whining softly or walking around. I can live with 6AM just fine since it is close to my normal wake up time.

His down training is going well even though I have only spent a total of 30 mins training him the past two weeks. I will post a video of our progress next week.

I will leave you with a video of Squash in the backyard. He likes to spy on the neighbor's two small dogs. He wishes I didn't have a privacy fence because it makes it difficult, lol!
Notice how he comes to me when I call him even though he is distracted by them. He is such a great listener! His wonky ear is adorable folded over...

3 Weeks

Squash has been here for three weeks and he is starting to settle in. We gave the kennel two weeks and he got worse and worse. For the past week he has been gated in the living room/dinning room with my weims when I leave and he is doing really well. He rubs his muzzle a little, but otherwise he sleeps the whole time. I come home during my break to let them out.

He is an easy going dog and very calm. He walks great on leash but will pull a little when he spots a squirrel. He loves car rides. He is great with all grooming; I brush his teeth every night, have cleaned his ears and trimmed his nails. He learned the stairs after only 10 mins and uses them daily just fine. He is a huge food hound.

Squash is very loving and comes up to me for pets and head/ear scratches. He'll push into you and move closer if you stop loving on him. Squash is very accepting of everything I do to him, he even allows me to take toys/items from him. This is good because Squash has a tendency to chew/eat toys and contraband (socks, gloves, undergarments, etc.). He destroys toys very quickly and will try to ingest them. Squash's only other negative is that his internal alarm clock goes off around 5 A.M. and he starts doing a full body rub against the bed. This is all really cute during the day, but not at 5!

Squash is an easy going and lovable boy. I'm hoping to try some training with him next week, we'll see how he does.

Here are pics from the first snow fall. Squash does not usually sit, but when it snowed he was very unhappy and wanted back in. He came up to me and just sat down in the snow, it was really weird! He looked so cute and uncomfortable, but handsome as always! <3
